CANCELLED – this program has been cancelled.
The Wisconsin Printing Council composed of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, PRINTING United Alliance, Flexographic Technical Association, Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute, Association for Roll-to-Roll Converters, and Great Lakes Graphics Association is hosting an in-person meeting for the printing industry in Wisconsin that will address critical environmental and sustainability updates. The program, How Sustainability and Compliance Are Shaping the Printing Industry, will feature speakers from the speakers from the printing industry, SCS Consulting, and the Department of Natural Resources.
Join us on June 26 as we provide you the tools and resources to understand how to remain compliant with Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources regulations. Please see below for the seminar agenda:
-
- 9:30 a.m. – SGP and Green Tier Program introduction
-
- 10:00 a.m. – How to Identify Hazardous Waste in the Printing Industry – An exciting interactive session dedicated to understanding how to identify and classify common waste streams generated in the printing industry. The session will be led by a WI DNR hazardous waste inspector so bring your questions and a list of waste streams.
-
- 10:45 a.m. – How Sustainability Is Shaping the Printing Industry – A renewed intensity in sustainability has emerged focusing on climate change, biodiversity, circular economy, environmental, social, & governance (ESG) scoring, and extended producer responsibility (EPR). Now that governments are passing laws and regulations governing many aspects of sustainability, integrating sustainability as a business principle, is here to stay.
-
- 11:30 a.m. – Update on Ozone Nonattainment Emission Reduction Credits and PM 2.5 – The EPA will reclassify portions of Southern and Eastern Wisconsin as “serious” nonattainment areas for the 2015 ozone standard, which will affect registration operation permits (ROP) and printers covered under ROPs in those areas. The nonattainment area reclassification will also make generating and using emission reduction credits (ERCs) more important and the mechanics of permitting ERCs will be covered. The impact of the new Particulate Matter 2.5 micron (PM2.5) standard on permitting will be discussed as well.
-
- 12:15 p.m. – Lunch (provided)
-
- 1:00 p.m. – Overview of Environmental Compliance including Partial Tour of Printer Portal – Because printing operations are classified as manufacturing businesses, they are subject to a variety of regulatory requirements. The requirements include air permitting and reporting, hazardous and universal waste management, stormwater discharge permit or no exposure certification, Community Right-to-Know reporting, and Toxic Release Inventory reporting. This session will provide an overview of these requirements.
-
- 1:45 p.m. – Small Business Resources Available from the DNR – WI DNR Small Business Environmental Assistance Program – An overview of the resources available for the printing industry and other small businesses to help you understand compliance requirements and how to reduce risk to your facility while improving your environmental footprint.

It is feasible solution to recover plastic packaging materials that currently go to the landfill. This presentation will review how STRAP process, how it works, and its current status.
