Offset Press Manager

Summary: This position is responsible for managing the offset pressroom, leading the crews across multiple shifts, ensuring optimal performance of the equipment and producing products that meet or exceed our customers’ quality standards. This position is also responsible for Print Production Sr. Operator responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Team Leadership – Provide help, guidance and support as needed. Ensure our teams have the tools and resources to be successful. Help them maintain focus on the common purpose of “Satisfy our Customers, Profitably”.

  • Integrate with other Managers/Supervisors to:
    • Share upcoming workloads
    • Review production assignments
    • Ensure teams are properly allocated to the work and tasks at hand
    • Identify hiring needs
  • Work with Leadership to:
    • Maintain a key focus on process improvement and production efficiency
    • Understand and foster our culture throughout the organization
    • Identify equipment needs, research and recommend
    • Continually monitor staffing needs
    • Communicate workload and overtime requirement
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to:
    • Develop and update job descriptions
    • Conduct effective interviews and make hiring recommendations
    • Maintain and manage excellent employee relations
    • Conduct timely and effective employee touch-base meetings

Pressroom Responsibilities:

  • Work with Production Manager and Production Planning Manager to ensure jobs are produced accurately and on time.
  • Demonstrate and document Quality and Productivity standards.
  • Manage the press maintenance schedule and assignments for all offset equipment.
  • Work with Production Management to ensure the press maintenance is completed on time, documented and kept up to date.
  • Ensure Operator trainees are trained properly by conducting training themselves or with other Sr. Operators.  Develop ongoing training to ensure commonality in technique and press efficiency among all operators.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels to ensure timely availability and access to common parts and supplies by working with Procurement team to procure all necessary print product material for production and other consumables, parts, and materials.
  • Work with ink, paper, coating and other vendors to understand new offerings, and concerns with existing products.
  • Work with the Print Production team to ensure their equipment and efficiency concerns are documented and delivered to the VP of Operations.
  • Work with VP of Operations to set up test runs for new and innovative supplies and materials.
  • Manage and maintain a well-organized and efficient materials storage and distribution system.
  • Develop (collaboratively with the Pace team) and utilize an Incoming Jobs and Work in Process Jobs report to plan material needs in advance.
  • Work with Press team and Management to trouble shoot mechanical issues on Press and engage with Repair Technicians as needed.

Print Production Sr Operator Responsibilities:

  • Set up and run our 6-color press to produce quality results.
  • Complete work in a timely manner as defined by production schedules and assist other Specialists in prioritizing and ensuring projects are completed timely.
  • Understand requirements and ensure finished work effectively drives down stream processes.
  • Accountable for the quality of worked produced.
  • Recognize errors quickly and ensure completed work meets our quality standards.
  • The position requires innovation, compatibility, and the willingness to perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Education/Experience:

  • High school or GED preferred.
  • 8+ years of press experience. Heidelberg experience preferred.
  • 2+ years leadership/supervisory experience

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal and team building skills to create an environment where employees achieve their best work.
  • Ability to communicate well verbally and in written format with all levels within the company, vendors, clients, etc.
  • Mechanically inclined with large, complex machinery.
  • Work experience in a fast paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Results driven ability to execute deadlines.
  • Expertise for creating best practices and workflow efficiencies.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to troubleshoot immediate issues.

  • The ability to produce independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work overtime and weekend work as necessary.
