Digital Prepress Operator/Platemaker – 3rd Shift

Position Summary: The digital prepress operator/platemaker is responsible for setting the foundation to have a successful progression through the print to production process. The digital prepress operator/platemaker will ensure highest quality product while meeting customer requirements.
Digital Prepress Operator – Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Determine set up and operating procedures from job tickets
· Monitor the production process while ensuring the highest quality for customer satisfaction
· Manipulates complex customer computer files to meet press specifications
· Inspects files for flaws (preflight) before moving to the next process
· Understands the designer’s instructions and translates into an optimized file to meet customer expectations
· Creates PDF and hard copy proofs for internal and external proofing
· Performs quality assurance checks on proofs to assure an accurate end product
· Work within prepress workflow software to create press ready layout files
· Understand and implement standard printing best practices in regard to digital and conventional press setup, bindery setup, and mailing
· Perform computer maintenance (i.e., file storage, backup, cleanup etc.)
· Demonstrate the ability to use the Print Management System
· Performs other duties as assigned
Platemaker – Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Determine set-up and operating procedures from job tickets
· Monitor press schedule
· Manipulates complex customer computer files to meet press specifications
· Inspects files for flaws (preflight) before moving to the next process
· Understands the designer’s instructions and translates into an optimized file to meet customer expectations
· Creates soft and hard copy proofs for internal and external proofing
· Images plates according to production schedule
· Understands and applies accurate plate curves and adjustments for different stock types
· Performs quality assurance checks on plates to assure an accurate end product
· Work within prepress workflow software to edit press ready layout files as needed
· Make minor adjustments to print files as needed
· Understand and implement standard printing best practices in regards to digital and conventional press setup, bindery setup, and mailing
· Perform computer maintenance (i.e., file storage, backup, cleanup etc.)
· Perform basic maintenance of platemaker and plate wash
· Demonstrate the ability to use the Print Management System
· Performs other duties as assigned
Required:
· Must have schedule flexibility to work weekends and overtime
· Strong attention to detail
Education and Experience:
· Education equivalent to a high school diploma
· Associates degree in Graphic Arts, Graphic Design or related field preferred
· Proficient on PC and Macintosh
· Proficient using Adobe Creative Cloud
· Experience with workflows such as Prinergy, Agfa Apogee or Asanti, ColorGate, Caldera and Durst

Stand, walk, talk, hear, bend at waist, stoop, twist, reach above waist and shoulder, push and pull, and lift or move up to 30 pounds
Use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls
Close vision and color vision
The employee will be required to occasionally:
Kneel or crouch down, climb stairs and work at elevation levels
Lift, push and pull over 30 pounds
Work Environment:
· Normal exposure to office environment
· Occasional exposure to manufacturing environment may include dust, odors, fumes, and noise.
