The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, PRINTING United Alliance, Flexographic Technical Association, Tag and Label Manufacturers Institute and the Great Lakes Graphics Association have partnered under the Wisconsin Printing Council Green Tier Charter to host an in-person meeting for the printing industry in Wisconsin that will address critical environmental, health & safety, and sustainability updates. The program, Changing Regulatory Landscape Workshop for the Printing Industry, will feature speakers from the industry, US Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Natural Resources.

Session Agenda

  • 10:00 a.m. – SGP and Green Tier Program introduction
  • 10:15 a.m. – Sustainability Drivers for the Printing Industry
  • 11:15 a.m. – Hazardous Waste and the Printing Industry – walk through top 10 hazardous waster violations
  • 12:00 noon – Lunch (provided)
  • 1:15 p.m. – Changes in Air Pollution Permitting and Control
  • 2:15 p.m. – Successful Safety Strategies – What to do when OSHA visits.
  • 3:00 p.m. – Adjourn

Presenters:
Carl Houtman PhD After studying in Minnesota (BChE & MS), Delaware (PhD), and France (Post-doc), Carl arrived in Madison, Wisconsin. In 1991, he joined a project focused on understanding wood biogenesis at the Forest Products Laboratory (FPL). Click HERE to view Carl’s full bio.

Julie LaRose has 28 years of experience as an Environmental Health and Safety Professional. Over the course of her career, Julie has worked in the insurance industry, the construction industry and higher education. For ten years, Ms. LaRose ran her own consulting company, Soteria Safety LLC. She has worked as a Waste Management Specialist with the DNR for the past two years. Julie has a Master of Science degree in Industrial Engineering. She is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) and an Associate in Risk Management (ARM).

Renee Lesjak Bashel started her career working for the State of Wisconsin 30 years ago as an engineer in the Wisconsin DNR’s Air Program, working as a compliance inspector and permit writer. Since 2000, Renee has been a technical expert for the Small Business Environmental Assistance Program and has focused on ways to make more resources available that help specific small business industry groups like the printers.

Emma Wright has been with the DNR as an air management engineer for about 2.5 years. I work with minor sources of air pollution in southeast Wisconsin on air compliance, but I also help process ROP applications and confidentiality requests.

Gary A. Jones is the director of environmental, health and safety (EHS) affairs at PRINTING United Alliance. He provides representation on behalf of the printing and specialty graphic imaging industry. In doing so, Mr. Jones works closely with the federal and state-level Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and other agencies.Click HERE to view Gary’s bio.
