GLGA News: LCP Wins Best of Show in GLGA’s 2023 Graphics Excellence Award Competition
June 7, 2023 – The Great Lakes Graphics Association (GLGA) revealed the top winners of their 2023 Graphics Excellence Awards (GEAs) during simultaneous Celebrations held on June 7, 2023.
The Celebrations are the culmination of the annual GEA competition, which recognizes companies throughout Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin for superb craftsmanship in the design, creation and production of outstanding printed projects they produce for their customers. More than 250 people gathered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Hoffman Estates, Illinois, on June 7 for two simultaneous awards ceremonies to celebrate another spectacular year of print in the three-state region.
Best of Show, the competition’s highest honor, was awarded to LCP of Waukegan, Illinois, for their entry in the Product Catalogs (4 or more colors) category entitled Christopher Peacock Brand Brochure. One judge noted, “The Peacock mantra is craftsmanship, heritage and excellence. This Best in Show represents that mission statement.”
First Runner-Up was awarded to American Printing Company of Madison, Wisconsin, for Faisal Abdu’Allah Dark Matter Art Book in the Art Books category. From the Point-of-Purchase Counter/Shelf category, Imperial Communications, New Berlin, Wisconsin, won Second Runner-Up accolades for their LaMarca Prosecco entry.
Best of Illinois went to LCP, for their Lake County Press 2023 Calendar in the Calendars category. Best of Indiana featured VOIR DIRE To Speak the Truth from the Fashion/Health/Pop Culture Magazines category by Priority Press, of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Suttle-Straus, Waunakee, Wisconsin, took Best of Wisconsin honors with their Sub-Zero Brand Book in the Hard Cover Trade Books, Journals and Other Books category. Platinum Converting of Itasca, Illinois, was awarded the Best of Packaging honors for their Sappi Holiday Kit 2022 in the Cartons and Containers category.
People’s Choice honors were awarded in each location. The winners were selected by a vote of the attendees at their respective Celebrations. In Hoffman Estates, attendees selected International Label & Printing Co., Inc., Elk Grove Village, IL, for their Modelo Cerveza Especial entry, a dual winner in the Digital Large Format and Diecuts, Pop-Ups, Unique Folds, and Involvement Devices categories.
In a first, the Milwaukee attendees selected a tie: LPI Letterhead Press, New Berlin, WI, won for their Multi-Dimensional Kurz Calendar, a triple Best of Category honoree in the Foil Stamping, Embossing/Debossing, and Other Special Finishing and/or Folding Techniques categories. Also honored was Exacta Graphics, Inc., Butler, WI, for their The Rev Group in the Brochures and Broadsides (4 or more colors) category.
The GEA competition was judged over two days in March by a panel of outside graphics experts, who brought almost 100 years of collective print, finishing and converting experience to their evaluation of the contenders. There was a wide range of excellent entries including books and catalogs, posters and calendars, labels and tags, wide format, and packaging.
Joseph Lyman, president of GLGA, is extremely proud of the quality of work submitted in the 2023 GEA competition and the results it produced. “As one of the largest regional graphic competitions in North America, the GEAs are one of most recognized programs GLGA manages throughout the year,” Lyman said.
“The Graphics Excellence Awards continue to demonstrate just how outstanding the quality of work produced in our region is and the high level of parity there is among printers, finishers and converters located throughout Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin,” Lyman said. “We are extremely proud to represent such outstanding print organizations.”
